How to Use Fake Bake

Why Fake Bake?
There are so many reasons to use a self tanner. Some people use it because they fear UVA/B rays will cause skin cancer. Some people are just afraid of the wrinkles the rays will cost. Not everyone lives in Florida, and not everyone has the money to pay to "go tanning" in the beds. Oh, and then there are people like me.
If you have used a self-tanner before, or know someone who has, you have undoubtedly seen orange streaks. This scares most people away from self-tanners. With extremely careful application, however, you will have that Brazilian Brown glow you have always wanted with Fake Bake.

Materials

Here is a list of what you will need to start fake and baking.
Exfoliating Soap
Soap
Self Tanner
Water
A hair tie
Rubber Gloves

Preparation

Before you start slathering on that self-tanner, there are many important steps you need to take for success. You will need clean skin before you start, so hit the showers! You also need to get all that dead skin off. Exfoliation is key to your success. I use a salt scrub myself, but almost any quality exfoliator will do. Use a circular motion to slough off that dead skin and pay special attention to your joints (knees, elbows, ankles).
Almost There
Ok, now that you are out of the shower, make sure you have dried yourself off well. Tie up your wet hair, and throw on those rubber gloves. You are now ready to rock and roll.
Application
The basics are the basics, but everyone has their own flair. I will share my flair with you, if you care to read a specific technique that works,
The Basics
Use slightly more tanner than you would regular lotion. Use a circular motion to rub it in, to avoid streaks. Make sure you cover all the areas of your body (don't forget your sides, or your armpits, or you will look funny). Focus on one area at a time. Use less tanner on the joints (knees, elbows, ankles) and on the tops of your feet. Avoid getting tanner on the bottom of your feet, the palms of your hands, and in your hairline.

Flair

This is how I do it. It works for me, but other people might apply their tanner slightly differently.
I start with my calf. I apply the tanner here first, and rub it into the tops of my feet and onto my knees. I never put tanner directly onto those two areas. I work my way up one leg and then the other. Then it's onto my torso, and up to my neck. When I get to my face I make sure I don't have too much tanner on my gloved hand. I put just enough on, and make sure to blend it in well. I make sure that I rub it from my neck and up into my face, blending well to avoid any blotches or lines.
The last area I do is my arms. I put some tanner onto my upper arms and blend it into my shoulder, pits, sides, and back. I work my way down to my elbows (never put tanner directly onto your elbows, always blend from other places). Then I work on my forearms. At this time I take off the gloves, and work the tanner down from my arm, over my wrists and onto the back of my hands.

Don'ts

Put tanner directly onto joints
Let tanner pool up in between your fingers or toes
Forget to exfoliate
Put on clothes for at least fifteen minutes
Get water onto an area where you have put tanner

Special Hints

I prefer the Fake Bake which have a tint to it so you can see where you are putting the tanner. This way you see the streams before they show up. You can make sure you are applying the tanner evenly.
If you have a significant other who will help you apply the tanner, they can be a great asset. Let them watch the way which you apply tanner, and explain what you are doing. Then, the two of you can spend a little quality time together trying to get a little darker
